Tapavino

Are you looking for good Spanish tapas food and wine (and maybe some sherry) in Sydney’s CBD? Well  you’re in luck because I have just the place for you.

Tapavino is conveniently located in Bulletin Place near Circular Quay. I recommend you make a booking especially on weekends as it’s only a small venue and it does get very busy. The bar is downstairs with seating in and out and bookings are usually seated upstairs. There’s often a line  for Tapavino and as you wait in line and step inside the vibe is buzzy and very European.

The wine list is impressive, showcasing over 300 Spanish wines and over 80 sherries. Sangria and a range of cocktails are also on offer.

The menu is fun and designed for sharing. The braised pork hock with paprika in lettuce cups ($7 a cup) are sensational. Other starters include soft boiled egg with white asparagus, house cured bacon and hazelnut dukka ($8) and smoked paprika popcorn ($4).

Staying true to it’s Spanish roots Tapavino has an impressive Jamon menu. The Serrano with fresh burrata and pickled onion is a standout ($22).

There are a range of larger meals to share including the spiced lamb shoulder, pomegranate and yogurt ($24). The lamb is tender and full of flavour and the grapes, basil and pumpkin seeds on top are a great addition to this dish.

Tapavino is one of my go to places for a quick bite to eat and drink in the city. The venue is always buzzing, there’s always a new wine to try and the food comes out quickly, is reasonably priced and never disappoints. It is only small and quite loud so if your looking for somewhere more intimate to have a chat, do keep this in mind. If, however, you are looking for delicious Spanish tapas, beautiful wine and good vibes, you will love this place.

The final say:

Standout dish – Spiced lamb shoulder, pomegranate and yogurt ($24)

Positives – Great location, buzzy vibe, good  reasonably priced food and impressive wine list

Negatives- Quite a small space and gets very loud. Although waitstaff are friendly and professional it can sometimes feel a bit rushed and disjointed  e.g. we had to ask for water a couple of times
